Adelaide Highlights with Wine Tasting and Coast - Full-Day Small Group Tour

Adelaide Highlights with McLaren Vale Wine Tasting and Coast is a full-day tour featuring some of Adelaide's finest experiences. This day tour offers a wonderful balance of sightseeing and wine tasting and certainly packs a punch as far as must do highlights when visiting Adelaide. We start the day with a City Highlights tour. While you get your bearings we'll show you some of the City of Adelaide's best sights, offering you an insight into her history and letting you in on some insider secrets, must do's, places to visit, and the best eateries to enjoy Adelaide's finest food. As we head out of the city we'll drive by and visit the iconic Adelaide Oval (events permitting) and pass through the picturesque North Adelaide suburb where we can enjoy the stunning federation architecture and lavish abodes. Our next stop will offer us a spectacular view of the City of Adelaide from the vantage point of Mount Lofty. After Mount Lofty lookout, our next stop is Hahndorf! With its abundance of boutique shops and eateries, the German village of Hahndorf is an absolute delight. There's plenty to explore as you wile away over an hour and a half of free time to do whatever you please. We'll meet you back at bus stop 54, on the main street of Hahndorf, where you'll climb back on board, sit back, relax and enjoy the short and incredibly scenic drive through the beautiful Adelaide Hills on route to the iconic wine tasting region of McLaren Vale. Once in McLaren Vale, our first stop is the stunning Chapel Hill Winery. Have your taste buds primed and your camera poised as your host at Chapel Hill tantalizes you with a wonderful structured wine tasting experience in their picturesque cellar door. We pass through the stunning McLaren Vale where there will be opportunities to take some iconic photos at famous landmarks. It's time now to climb back on board before we take the short drive to our next winery - the quaint Shingleback Winery. On this incredibly relaxed tasting you'll enjoy a structured tasting of Shingleback's finest wines, and if you're peckish, you can purchase a cheeseboard to enjoy with your wine. After Shinglebeck, it's time to head back towards Adelaide. We're taking the scenic route so you can gaze out at the Adelaide Coastline as we journey towards our final featured destination of the day - Adelaide's beautiful seaside suburb of Glenelg. There are two options for you here. Take a 15 minutes stroll to get an idea of what Glenelg has to offer, before hopping back on the bus to Adelaide or, if you wish, leave the tour in Glenelg and spend a few leisurely hours enjoying the abundance of shops, restaurants, and, of course, the beach. Pick a spot for dinner and get ready to watch one of the most spectacular sunsets anywhere in the world. Trams run from Glenelg to Adelaide every 20 minutes.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Adelaide

Celebrate the start of your journey with an exclusive evening in the world-renowned, Barossa Valley. You’ll spend the evening at Seppeltsfield Estate, delighting in a special dining experience in the vintage cellar, exclusive to Indian Pacific guests. A ‘Firing of the Barrel’ display is part of the evening, as well as a food and wine pairing curated by Executive Chef Owen Andrews, highlighting regional produce and traditional methods that reflect the story of the Barossa. After dinner, you’ll be welcomed aboard the Indian Pacific where you will settle into your cabin, or head to the lounge for a night-cap as you begin your journey towards Sydney.

Day 2: Broken Hill

Crossing another border during the night, you’ll wake up in Broken Hill, New South Wales. Enjoy a hearty breakfast, ready for the day’s activities in the Silver City. Discover what makes Broken Hill special with a visit to the Miners’ Memorial and the Sulphide Street Railway and Historical Museum, offering fascinating insights into the town’s heritage. Alternatively, go underground with a tour of the historic Daydream Mine for a glimpse into the life of early miners. For art enthusiasts, unleash your creativity at the Pro Hart Gallery with a ‘paint and sip’ activity, crafting your own masterpiece in Pro’s original studio. Food lovers can experience the outback at the Living Desert State Park with Chef Lee Cecchin, discovering native plants, sampling spices, and crafting a mini pavlova in a fun cook-off at The Old Salt Bush restaurant. For a different perspective, join Shelita Buffet, Queen of the Outback, for a lively tour along the main drag. Returning to the train for lunch, admire the scenery as the Indian Pacific travels through regional New South Wales. Tonight, dinner is served on board as you make the most of your final night exploring Australia by train.

Day 3: Blue Mountains & Sydney

The Blue Mountains is known for its soaring sandstone ridges wrapped in native flora. This World Heritage-listed area marks your final stop before arriving in Sydney. Say goodbye to the Indian Pacific after breakfast, to travel deep into the mountains for this Off Train Experience. Scenic World includes four phenomenal mountain experiences, from the Scenic Skyway, which takes you over ancient ravines, with 360-degree vistas to the Scenic Cableway that glides over the forest to the valley floor and the Scenic Railway, the steepest passenger railway in the world. Alternatively, stretch your legs on a guided walk with spectacular views, or indulge in a high-tea at The Hydro Majestic Hotel taking in the panoramic views of the Blue Mountains. Complete your journey on our chartered New South Wales rail service (fully hosted by your Indian Pacific crew) into Sydney Central Station. Alternatively, if you prefer to arrive in Sydney earlier, stay on board the Indian Pacific to travel directly to Sydney Central Station, arriving before lunch.
