Description

Osaka is a charming, relaxed city best known for its food, fun and nightlife—with some history and culture peeking through. Osaka is only a short shinkansen ride from Tokyo, but has a very different personality to Japan's capital city. Hop off the bullet train into an area of exciting nightlife, delicious food and straight-talking, friendly locals. Along with plenty of shopping and modern attractions, Osaka also has a historical side, the highlight of which is Osaka Castle. The castle is a great place to discover more about Japanese history and to wander the beautiful grounds, especially during cherry blossom season in April when the sakura blooms and the weather is often at its best.

Shinsekai Through The Years - Small Group Food Tour

The Shinsekai district is unique, there is nothing really like it anywhere else in Japan. The neighbourhood dates back to the early 1900´s and grew in popularity through the post-war “Showa” era until the 1960´s. An exploration in this colourful neighbourhood really is very “Local-Osaka.” It’s always so much fun, at any time of day! Though people visit from across Japan and around the world, this area is still very much a locals’ spot- with many shops, restaurants, and gaming parlours catering to the locals who live nearby. This retro district is full of inexpensive local dining and entertainment options. Take a stroll with our local expert and we will show you the hidden gems and explain the colourful history of Shinsekai through the years. You will get to try different local dishes at 4 different stops, each item with a long history in the Osaka area. Shinsekai evokes the Showa era in Japan which was full of optimism, growth, and a communal sense of building a better future together. There is a lot of romance and nostalgia about this period in modern Japanese history. This vintage neighbourhood brings back all the charm of the 1910´s through to the 1960´s, a boom period for Osaka City.
