Itinerary Highlights

Zurich

The largest city in Switzerland is a major contemporary art and shopping destination. Important artworks are displayed in the Kunsthaus and the Rietberg Museum, while those who consider shopping an art can hone their skills along Bahnhofstrasse and Niederdorf. Chagall's stained glass windows in the Fraumunster amaze and Zurich's 500 clubs and bars, including several in swimming pools, pulse with life 'til the early hours. This city on Lake Zurich has excellent public transit and a free bike rental system.

Breisach

Located at the foot of Kaiserstuhl Mountain on the French-German border, Breisach is a charming little medieval town. Once surrounded by city walls, the gates to the city still stand today. Breisach is the gateway to Germany's Black Forest region, an area of unrivalled natural beauty with its forests of thick pine trees. The most well-known products from this region are Black Forest ham and Black Forest cherry cake. (FB,L,D)

Kehl

Kehl is a town in southwestern Germany in the Ortenaukreis, Baden-Württemberg. It is located on the river Rhine,

Mainz

Two thousand years of history have lent Mainz a cosmopolitan air, and museums and cathedrals of various architectural styles dot the city. Bring home a book as a souvenir?Gutenberg worked here, and the museum dedicated to him is a highlight.

Rudesheim

A romantic wine village located along Germany's Rhein River.

Bernkastel

Bernkastel-Kues on the Moselle river in Germany has plenty to offer: excellent hiking trails and cycling pathes, an unforgettable landscape. Bernkastel, on the right bank, is a symphony in half-timber, stone and slate, and teems with wine taverns.

Cochem

There may not be a lovelier scene in Germany than the town of Cochem, couched in the high, vine-clad slopes of the Moselle Valley. The town of half-timbered houses, scurrying streets and medieval gates is on a loop in the river, under the steady watch of the Romantic Reichsburg castle.

Koblenz

As the meeting point of the Rhine and Mosel rivers and with the UNESCO-listed Rhine Valley as its backdrop, Koblenz has no shortage of photo-worthy scenery. Add a hilltop medieval fortress and some impressive Romanesque buildings, and it's one of the prettiest towns along the Rhine.

Nijmegen

At over 2000 years old, Nijmegen has had a pretty full life. Its transition from Roman military camp to modern municipality has not been without growing pains, but today Nijmegen is thriving, largely because of its lively student population and its status as a hub for political activism

Dordrecht

Dordrecht, historically known in English as Dort, is a city and municipality in the Western Netherlands, located in the province of South Holland.

Amsterdam

The capital and cultural centre of the Netherlands is dually considered a gracious, formal cultural centre and the most offbeat metropolis in the world. Some of the best art in the world, including that by Van Gogh, is showcased in over 40 fine museums. Its attractive canals and gabled houses are a popular subject for local burgeoning painters.
