Itinerary Highlights

Cruising the Mediterranean with MSC Cruises means coming within reach of the best in culture, tradition and monuments that have for centuries enriched its shores.

Sail from Lisbon to explore one of the world’s most ancient cities and the second oldest European capital after Athens. It’s yet to go global and its white-domed cathedrals and cobbled alleyways make it quintessentially Portuguese. Lisbon is also remarkably inexpensive: food, drink and entertainment all offer exceptional value for money.

The thoroughly Spanish Alicante has a decidedly elegant Mediterranean air that you can get a taste of on your holiday cruise to southern Spain: close to your cruise ship the city offers seafront paseos and wide, breezy esplanades, peppered with cosy bars and terrace cafés.

Perched high above the largest natural harbour in the Mediterranean, Mahon’s compact centre is no more than ten minutes’ walk from one end to the other. Its architecture consists of an unusual hybrid of classical Georgian townhouses, which reflect a strong British connection, and tall Spanish apartment blocks shading the narrow streets.

Wedged into the coastline on north-eastern Sardinia, Olbia has a first-class museum, plus numerous bars and restaurants, usually abuzz with tourists. Long a magnet for Italy’s glitziest celebrities, in the 1960s the five-star development of the Costa Smeralda helped to transform the economy of the entire island.

Genoa is marvellously eclectic, vibrant and full of rough-edged style; you can explore its old town: a dense and fascinating warren of medieval alleyways home to large palazzi built in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries by Genoa’s wealthy mercantile families and now transformed into museums and art galleries.

On the spectacular coastline of the French Riviera lies Marseille, known for its unique mix of grit and glamour seen in its labyrinth of streets and historical architecture. Only a few miles from Marseille’s charismatic cafes and bustling Vieux Port, stunning cities are to be found. Visit Aix-en-Provence, birthplace of Cézanne, or take in the ancient beauty of Avignon.

The elegant central zone of Málaga is largely pedestrianized with the focal point, marble-paved Calle Marqués de Larios, lined with fashionable stores, its most elegant thoroughfare. Malaga is renowned for its fish and seafood, which can be sampled at tapas bars and restaurants.

Cádiz rewards its visitors with excellent beaches, UNESCO World Heritage Sites, ancient cathedrals, and a fascinating old town. This MSC Mediterranean Cruises destination is a gateway to spectacular Seville. Further afield, discover the dazzling White Villages of Andalusia high up in the hills.
