Day 4 Gaeta

Set between Rome and Naples amid the so-called Ulysses Riviera, gorgeous Gaeta overlooks the beautiful Tyrrhenian Sea. Its history as a resort dates back to Imperial Rome. Nearby sites include the first-century BC mausoleum of general Lucius Munatius Plancus. Its old town is mostly medieval, showcased by narrow alleys, the massive 13th-century castle and the 12th-century Cathedral of Assunta e Sant'Erasmo

Day 5 Naples

One of the world's greatest cultural centres is stretched around the Bay of Naples and lies at the foot of Mount Vesuvius in one of the most outstanding scenic settings in the Mediterranean. It hosts extraordinary works of art and architecture in classical Greek and Roman styles.

Day 6 Salerno

Salerno is a port city southeast of Naples, in Italy. Atop Monte Bonadies, the centuries-old Arechi Castle has sea views, plus Museo Medievale del Castello, exhibiting medieval ceramics and coins. In town, built on the ruins of a Roman temple, is Salerno Cathedral. It has Byzantine bronze doors, a baroque crypt and a marble altar. The terraced Minerva's Garden has been growing medicinal plants since the 14th century.

Day 7 Messina

This Sicilian port city is noted for the Duomo, an elegant reconstruction of the medieval cathedral built by Roger II, and the detached campanile, which contains the largest astronomical clock in the world. Ruins salvaged from past natural disasters are housed in the Museo Regionale.

Day 8 Palermo

War-torn Palermo was neglected for centuries after WWII, which ironically led to the preservation of the city's historic buildings and bombsites. Though it was once regarded as Europe's most beautiful city, the fanciful decay of Palermo is now what draws visitors.

Day 9 Agrigento

Day 9 Bus Travel

Day 9 Porto Empedocle

Porto Empedocle is a town and comune in Italy on the coast of the Strait of Sicily, administratively part of the province of Agrigento. It is the namesake of Empedocles, a Greek pre-Socratic philosopher and a citizen of the city of Agrigentum, in his day a Greek colony in Sicily.

Day 10 Siracusa (Sicily)

A visit to Sicily is truly a feast for all senses. The Mediterranean island is a foodie's paradise, offering rustic fare that makes the most of local bounty. Crispy/creamy arancini - fried balls of rice filled with cheese and sauce - are mouthfuls of heaven. The Sicilian sweet tooth has manifested in some of the world's finest desserts, like icy granita and sinful cannoli. Give your stomach a quick break and visually devour the Baroque architecture of Catania or the awesome holy monuments of Agrigento.

Day 11 Valletta, Malta

In 1530 Malta was given to the Knights Hospitallers, who built a Christian stronghold and the capital, Valletta, behind whose fortifications youll find Renaissance splendors that seem to be untouched by time.
